Oh how disgruntled I was when I heard that a Rocky spinoff was in the works! Rocky Balboa was a fitting end to the beautiful series, leaving audiences with words of wisdom and a restoration of love for the one and only Rocky. Another installment, regardless of whether it focused on Apollo Creed’s son or not, could only tarnish the legacy! OR SO I THOUGHT!

Creed was a surprise! In the months leading up to the movie, I started getting pumped up and when the reviews for the movie came in, I was actually looking forward to it. I walked into this theater with high expectations and immense trepidation. I walked out so happy and amazed. Not only was I into it, so was everyone in the theater. With each blow, a wince, and with each return, a cheer! There were people on their feet, dancing happy dances, as if we were in the stadium, watching two boxers duke it out in real-life.

The story follows Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis, whose thirst for boxing is just as profound as his father’s. As he tries to make a name in the boxing world, Adonis struggles to break away from his father’s shadow. Ignoring the pleas for him not to follow in his father’s footsteps, Adonis seeks the help from his father’s biggest rival, Rocky Balboa. Thus begins a new legacy.

I think this is a spinoff that any Rocky lover will enjoy. It kept true to the original and established itself as the birth of a new era. Stallone, as always, was perfect and well deserving of that Oscar nom.
