Read through my reviews of hit and miss restaurants as I travel around NYC and the world in this wonderful journey called "life".

red hook lobster, smorgasburg

Lobster Roll – The roll was garnished with snippets of green onions and a side pickle. While the roll looked nice and meaty, it was over-seasoned with lemon and/or vinegar because we couldn’t taste the lobster meat. To make matters worse, there was hardly any butter! *This roll falls several levels below my favorite Luke’s Read more…

This location is very hit or miss. The service can either be very atrocious or very friendly. During one visit, we were neglected, overcharged without being told, and made extremely uncomfortable. On a different visit, I got as many biscuits as my heart desired and the staff was always making sure we were all right. Read more…

Dan Dan Noodles – This is a good starter choice. The noodle serving was well matched with the chili and pork sauce. Each noodle strand was glossed with the sauce. We get this every time we come, so it’s a safe, consistent selection. Green Beans with Minced Pork – Whenever I go to the Szechuan Read more…

Seasonal Fall Salad – mesclun, pears, apples, kale and balsamic vinegar dressing The salad tasted abundantly healthy. As I continued munching on the salad, I began to realize my distaste for sweetness in my salads when paired with vinegar. The combination was odd and unnatural. I might grow to like it in the future though. Read more…

The grilled cheese sandwiches just didn’t achieve the highest level of multitude that a good grilled cheese sandwich should. The cheese didn’t ooze out from the sides. In fact, there wasn’t even enough cheese for the sandwich to even dream of it! Obviously, very poor bread-to-cheese ratio for a GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH!

bassanova ramen

Truffle Ramen – The ramen looked wildly healthy; it has a lot of forest colors with hints of red and yellow. While I’m a sucker for truffles, this ramen was full of bad choices. For example, the use of baby corn rather than full kernels was a bummer. The red pepper would have been better Read more…

Compost – Sounds like trash, but tastes like a chocolate chip cookie. I found the recipe and it has everything imaginable in it! Such a complex cookie for such a simple taste. Or maybe my flavor senses were knocked out. Confetti – Tastes like a cake and has the appearance of a party that got Read more…

Fried Pimento Cheese Sandwich – This was practically an empanada filled with scalding hot, gooey cheese! It was delicious. Just make sure to wait a couple minutes before chomping. You might get burned. Fried Chicken – There was a crunch in every bite! And the meat was juicy, tender, and fabulous. The batter was seasoned Read more…

Donut twist – Not the freshest donut I’ve ever had. The outer shell of the piece was already staling, and the taste wasn’t distinct from a donut I could get from Dunkin. *They are popular for their customizable jelly filled donuts. I’m not into jelly filled pastries, but if I were, it would be more Read more…

Fried calamari – I think it’s really hard to do calamari wrong. The squid was crisp, flavorful, and refreshing with a spritz of lemon. Dark and stormy cocktail – It was sweet and gingery with a severely bitter ending; a storm in my mouth indeed. Lobster palooza – Quarter-pound lobster with corn and potatoes This Read more…
