Below are restaurants that I consider "HIT", so if you come across them, check them out!

kabab king

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013

A Jackson Heights excursion with lovely Raccoon and Rabbit resulted in my first Pakistan food experience at Kebab King, where last year, I had naively and rather enthusiastically stuffed Pi in my mouth only to discover I wasn’t ready for it. Luckily, I wasn’t the only one in the group with a questionable look on Read more…

luke’s lobster, upper west side

Friday, October 11th, 2013

Delicious lobster, crab, and shrimp rolls. Buttery, creamy, seafood-y goodness. What more can I say? They can do no wrong. Except for maybe some of the weird tasting sodas from Maine. But even those are pretty unique. Give it a go if you like seafood hugged lightly by buttery bread.

T’was a jubilant reunion with Swan and what better way to celebrate and catch-up than to feast on Malaysian/Laotian/Thai cuisine? We started off with beverages: Thai iced tea for Swan and coconut juice for me. I was quite pleased by the generous amount of coconut meat at the bottom of my glass. It was fresh Read more…

la vie en szechuan

Saturday, October 5th, 2013

I was really hoping for a Mapo Tofu repeat, but this place doesn’t quite meet the bar despite its popularity. We ordered dan dan noodles, dry-sauteed string beans, stir-fried water spinach, and the specialty meat dish. I liked the water spinach, but it wasn’t exceptionally amazing. It just wasn’t as oily as other restaurants tend Read more…

pig island, red hook

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013

Pig Island indeed. If you ever have a hankering for pig fare, definitely spend the dough to get into this festival of BBQ and beer because it is worth it. Pig is prepared and presented in a variety of different ways, some that work, some that don’t, but all of which are intriguing and visually Read more…

mapo tofu

We were on our way to S’mac when we stumbled across the big temporary sign for this place. It was great timing too, since I wasn’t really itching for mac ‘n cheese. I’m not an expert on Sichuan cuisine, so I let Panda do all the work. For two people, we ordered quite a bit of Read more…

gramercy tavern

Thursday, September 26th, 2013

It was time for Mama Tiger, Panda, and I to get all fancy because we were going to Gramercy Tavern! The restaurant specializes in American cuisine and the interior designers did a hell of a job to ensure that you get that all-American vibe. The atmosphere is homey, the decorum is southern with earthy tones, Read more…

blue ribbon sushi

Monday, September 16th, 2013

Hands down the best sushi I’ve had so far in the city without going completely broke! It’s not an easy find with the absence of a sign on the door, but it certainly attracts the eye when walking past. Inside, the mood is romantic and cool. Very zen. Raccoon and I were directed to our Read more…

Mama Tiger was in town and she wanted some oysters! And oysters we got. After a 30 or so minute wait, we were directed to a table near the kitchen. The setting was dim, and the tables were placed uncomfortably close together causing the service to frequently bump into me. That was not particularly welcoming, Read more…

il bambino

Thursday, September 5th, 2013

I’m a huge fan of truffles whether in true form, oil, or chocolate. I can never get enough, so when Koala told Panda about the place, we had to go! And it was perfect because it wasn’t far from the Beer Garden. A few blocks and we made it to this quaint little restaurant that Read more…
