bar primi

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

After a few great experiences at Locanda Verde, we finally booked a reservation for our first wedding anniversary at Bar Primi. If this was going to be a similar experience, we expected that the antipasti would be way better than the entrees. We arrived on time for our reservation. Immediately, red flag #1: The hostess Read more…

butter midtown

Sunday, February 7th, 2016

I had Butter on my shortlist of restaurants I wanted to dine at ever since I watched a few episodes of Chopped in which Chef Alex Guarnaschelli exuded this stern, don’t-give-a-fuck attitude. It resonated with me and with a restaurant named after my favorite spread in the world, how could I resist! I made reservations Read more…

ducks eatery

* Boo on me for not going for the one brunch dish that has what I can only imagine is the restaurant’s expertise: duck. I’ll have to come back for fried duck! Smoked Brisket Hash – Now, this is what I’m talking about! One of the reasons we ended up here was because the barbecue Read more…

mollys shebeen

* I really wish there was a bar like this around my area because I would frequent it all the time! The staff is so friendly, sparking conversations and offering recommendations with ease. It feels like a family run bar, with a very authentic Irish atmosphere. An interesting trait to the bar is the sawdust Read more…

herrells ice cream

Sunday, September 27th, 2015

*Prepare yourself to wait in line on a hot summer day! Mudpie – A beautifully cool creamy mix of coffee ice cream, decadent chocolate cake-like cookies, swirls of fudge, and if you fancy, rainbow sprinkles! The ice cream is rich, delicious, and thick. Each spoonful is like scooping up fresh-made gelato that doesn’t melt instantly Read more…

the sparrow tavern

Sunday, September 20th, 2015

*A corner bar, across from the very popular Bohemian Beer Garden is this jewel in Astoria. Watch Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives? This was one of the places visited! Swiss Chard Quesadilla – Fairly simple yet gratifying. Cheese and greens mixed and melted in between tortillas? A good “healthy” snack pre-entrée. Pulled Pork – This was Read more…

bono trattoria

Focaccia with Prosciutto – More in the form of a Panini, with the prosciutto and arugula nestled in two slices of the dough used to make pizza. The shell was thin, not anything like focaccia. I’m not an Italian expert, but I was sure focaccia was doughier and usually the ingredients are embedded into the Read more…

anchor wine bar

Sunday, September 13th, 2015

Mussels in White Wine Sauce – The sauce was excessively lemony. While that’s often not a bad thing, it actually made the dish rather putrid. I was also dismayed by the size of the mussels. It really must not be mussel season. Grilled Octopus – capers, tomatoes, potatoes, basil This was my favorite pre-entrée antipasto. Read more…

Lamb Burger – Many friends have raved about this burger and it’s deserved. A lot of the credit goes to the feta stuffed into the core of the lamb patty. The lamb alone is nothing special, but with a bite of the feta, you get moist tenderness and an elevation in flavor, salty and mouth-watering. Read more…

famous sichuan

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015

Dan dan noodles – The noodles were different than those served at other restaurants in that the main ingredient looked like rice, given its white, near-translucent color. The texture of the noodles was more fragile as well. The chili sauce mixture wasn’t particularly heated in taste and there was very little pork mixed in. Not Read more…
